Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

• Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects.
• Support manufacturing improvement initiatives, including fundamental understanding, variability reduction, defect reduction and process control improvement.
• Improve existing manufacturing processes and capabilities with a focus on extrusion technology.
• Develop methods and processes to improve existing products.
• Support the implementation of new die technology and processes.
• Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineer related problems.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Provide engineering expertise and leadership for extrusion process technologies, supporting daily manufacturing operations through structured problem-solving, root-cause analysis, nonconformance disposition, corrective actions, and the application of engineering principles to resolve process and equipment challenges.

• Partner with Division Engineering and Development teams to support new die introductions, including equipment installation, process certification, technical documentation, training, and ensuring safe, high-quality, repeatable processes and products in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

• Build subject-matter expertise in materials, processes, and equipment; develop detailed technical documentation for key process steps and changes; and train operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes.

• Lead or contribute to focused projects, using statistical tools and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies to drive process and product improvements, execute DMAIC and cost-reduction initiatives, and support business objectives.

Travel Requirements:

• Very little travel expected (<5%)

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

• Standard hours (M-F 8-5)
• Flexible hours may be required to support off-hours experimentation on weekends and evenings.

Education and Experience Required: 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Technology, or a related engineering discipline, with 1–3 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment and strong mechanical aptitude in machining process engineering.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot manufacturing processes, identify root causes, make sound technical decisions, and implement measurable improvements using Lean, Six Sigma, PCPD, DMAIC, data analysis, and statistical methods.

• Results-oriented project leadership skills, including the ability to organize and lead small cross-functional teams, manage multiple complex priorities and internal customers, and achieve project objectives through collaboration.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with practical experience using basic statistics and familiarity with advanced statistical techniques.

Desired Skills:

• Six Sigma Green Belt training and demonstrated technical expertise in process improvement, measurement, characterization, and/or ceramics processing, along with proficiency using statistical software and inspection equipment.

• Experience creating technical documentation, including technical reports, machine specifications, SOPs, and machine qualification materials; familiarity with Corning Environmental Technologies products, including filters and substrates, is preferred.

• Ability to work effectively with external vendors, equipment suppliers, and union work environments while demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Brings technical curiosity, personal integrity, initiative, and commitment, with the ability to work independently, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and incorporate new learnings into evolving project plans.

The range for this position is  $84,932.00 - $116,782.00  assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
