Scope of Position
- Summer internship position to identify improvements that increase engineering efficiency
- In this meaningful role, you will have the opportunity to apply Industrial Engineering and Lean concepts to improve product and information flow, reduce inventory, meet customer delivery, increase capacity, reduce complexity, and reduce costs
- Participate in project teams to apply Industrial Engineering tools to yield process and flow improvements with the purpose of reducing cost, growing capacity, or reducing complexity
- Performs cost and capacity studies, economic comparisons, and justification analysis; evaluates systems, methods, human factors, workflow, and other opportunities for productivity improvement.
- Implement Lean fundamental concepts such as value stream mapping and layout concepts for flow and pull to implement continuous flow

Day to Day Responsibilities
- Engage with manufacturing or innovation teams to understand workflow, problems to solve, current state, and feasibility of proposed solutions
- Apply industrial engineering analysis to deliver results including observing and understanding production workflow (process flows, spaghetti maps and data collection), capacity analysis, material utilization, space utilization, Lean manufacturing, and DMAIC methodology
- Complete observations and data analysis, write summaries and conclusions and make recommendations based upon the outcome of the observations and analysis
- Present the results to the engineering and manufacturing teams
- Use engineer principles and data to solve problems, including production issues
- Ensure standard methodologies are communicated, evaluated, and implemented
- Develop and execute project plans; including requirements, deliverables, resources, timing and risks
- Identify areas of potential productivity improvement; generate ideas and recommend systems, programs and projects
- Communicate ideas and project status clearly and professionally through graphic and written media, and oral presentations. Provide necessary documentation of activities, results, assignments.
- Responsible for the accuracy of work performed; take a can-do approach to ensure quality of work
Required Education and Experience
• Candidate is enrolled in an Industrial Engineering degree program
• Interest in applying industrial engineering skills, including some of the following: capacity analysis, cost modeling, facility layout development, logistics, process simulation model development, implementation and analysis
• Interest in applying Lean manufacturing concepts and principles, including some of the following: cycle time reduction, manufacturing / business processes, Value Stream Mapping, line balance/staffing, work cell design, quick change over

• Experience in Lean transformation of a business and / or manufacturing processes
• Self-motivated, independent, flexible, quick learner
• Strong data analysis and statistical skills

Travel
• Flexibility - You may travel up to 10%

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
