Scope of Role:

  • Innovation leader for new processes and technologies at the Erwin Plant.
  • Provide leadership for new product and process/technology development.
  • Provides leadership inputs to the plant for objectives, capital, performance assumptions and resource allocation.
  • Serve as Manufacturing Innovation Effectiveness (MIE) lead for the plant – Act as “co-innovator” working with new products team, innovation program managers, Process Product Development, Division Engineering and Development on adopting new products and technologies into the plant.
  • Engage early in the innovation life cycle and serve as an equal partner with innovation program teams to drive direction and manage tradeoffs. Collaborate on the plans to optimize the success of the overall program.
  • Align resources to enable successful progress towards achieving business case.
  • Delivers capable new products and technologies to manufacturing that meets performance and profitability goals.
  • Establish clear success criteria. Ensure the right functional areas are actively engaged early.
  • Bring program ownership & collaborate across plant functions to drive operations readiness for new products and processes
  • Work with Commercial and Technology Teams to create shared objectives, metrics and deliverables, for new products and processes.
  • Integrate cross-functional teams that drive process capability and enhances product performance and cost for new products.
  • Set clear expectations on use of the tools like MIE and PQA and LEAN early in the innovation cycle.
  • Understanding manufacturing cost drivers and participate in cost model development for the new product or process.
  • Leverage cost model as improvement strategy is defined.
  • Partner with new product leader to develop roadmap & strategy to deliver long term business case for new products.
  • Early in the life cycle work with development to understand and have input on what the desired end state looks like. Understand CTQ’s, develop and understand early capacity models.
  • Coordinate the assignment and management of required resources to ensure manufacturing readiness for new products and processes.
  • Provide leadership for co-innovation and a “pull mentality” for bringing innovation into manufacturing, with effective checks/balances for quality, performance & cost.
  • Participate in MIE Community of Practice.
  • Define and deliver Operational Readiness for new products and processes to ensure plant systems are in place prior to start of production.
  • Effective communications: translate work, solutions, and directions into presentations to leadership that can be understood and are actionable.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Ceramic, Materials, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • 7+ years in manufacturing, engineering or development with 2+ years in a plant engineering or operations role.
  • Broad process engineering background
  • Exposure to early stage manufacturing programs
  • Ability to identify & clearly articulate problem statements and solution paths
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to define reality, handle ambiguity and effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Provide clear and focused strategy to enable success.

 

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Minimal

 

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40+ hours, Monday – Friday.
  • Typically 8-5

 

 

Desired Skills:

  • Proven track record and general knowledge of CET ceramic products and processes
  • Experience with new product or process introductions and use of innovation tools
  • Knowledge of materials processing
  • Experience with PEx tools such as Six Sigma DMAIC, LEAN
  • Teamwork in a multicultural environment
  • Experience in the stages of innovation, transferring technology and processes from development to production
