Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position

  • Applies scientific, mathematical, and statistical techniques in the determination of performance attributes for optical fiber products, processes and measurements.
  • Develops a complete understanding of measurement devices, procedures and standards.
  • Provides engineering support and consultation on specific projects, such as the assembly, debug, testing, and purchasing of new measurement systems.
  • Identifies and implements improvements to existing measurement systems as required.
  • Generates new measurement ideas and seeks to effectively link them to existing and future customer needs.
  • Works with customers, Applications Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and scientists on matters of optical measurements and influences optical fiber product development.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Designs, models, analyzes, and develops and executes testing of optical and electro-optical systems and components.
  • Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to take appropriate action.
  • Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices.
  • Collaborates with members of immediate team as well as teams within research and other development groups.
  • Communicates progress and needs to immediate team and other partners.
  • Balances hands-on work-related activities with technical leadership while providing guidance to other team members.
  • Prepares technology transfer qualification and documentation.

 

Education and Experience

  • B.S in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Optical Engineering, Physics, or Optics.

 

Required Skills

  • Ability to design and carry out experiments independently.
  • Knowledgeable in analyzing data, drawing logical conclusions and driving next steps.
  • Technical curiosity.

 

Desired Skills

  • Experience in metrology
  • Experience with delivering technology
  • Master’s Degree or PhD preferred.
  • Possess strong communication skills along with effective presentation and technical writing skills
  • Works effectively within a team environment.
  • Comfortable working independently and lead technical work.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Effective time management and handling multiple priorities

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10%.
