Scope of Position:
Summer intern in the Optical Communications Division - Product Engineering group as a Measurement Engineering Intern. The intern will be a member of a technical group involved in the development, design and implementation of a measurement system used to characterize optical fibers. The candidate will focus on performing experiments to validate and improve optical models.



  • Support engineers and scientists in designing and developing optical measurement systems.
  • Run experiments in a laboratory setting
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Document test methodologies, results and provide recommendations


Work Hours:

  • Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm


Education and Experience:

  • Completion of Junior year in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics or Chemistry Bachelors Degree program. Graduate students in the same disciplines will be preferable.
  • The candidate must have completed a minimum of two courses in Optics or Spectroscopy


Required Skills:

  • Background in optics or optical engineering.
  • Laboratory experience – college lab courses acceptable.
  • Basic data analysis, image processing and statistical skills.
  • Programming skills.
  • Self-Starter and Results-oriented.
  • Flexibility - Able to change and adjust smoothly as the situation demands.
  • Strong communication skills.


Desired Skills:

  • Optical metrology.
  • Experience in Labview programming.
  • Knowledge of basic spectroscopy.
  • “Hands-on” laboratory research experience.
