Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.
Scope of Position
Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing process and equipment. Develop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address equipment/process performance. Develop subject-matter expertise of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing and engineering.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Work with project teams in a support role that will cross multiple disciplines including design activities, process improvement and new product introduction.
- Provide mechanical expertise and innovative designs to improve equipment throughout the plant.
- Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with experts.
- Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed understanding for key process steps.
- Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation.
- Receive and integrate new technologies to improve process capability.
- Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.
- Recommend and implement improvements to processes and equipment.
- Lead and/or support projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products/processes.
- Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.
- Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.
- Work with other team members and departments to ensure that product output at each process step meets or exceeds manufacturing budgets and goals.
- Execute cost reduction and PEx projects (DMAIC/DESIGN) in line with business objectives.
- Develop and use project plans and timelines to achieve project goals without sacrificing safety, intellectual property, or quality. Adhere to all Corporate, Business Unit, and Site guidelines for same.
Projects Involved with: Project activity will vary throughout the year. Position will support Corning Environmental Technologies, Light Duty Substrates, Light Duty Filters and Heavy Duty Products worldwide. Will include capital equipment improvements as well as new product introduction into manufacturing.
Experiences/Education/ Skills - Required
- Minimum Associate Degree in a technical program; Preferred 4 year technical
- 3 + years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; 5 + years (preferred)
- Software: Drafting experience with CAD, AutoCAD, or Solidworks
- Drafting - basic drafting as well as updating of existing designs
- The ability to learn new technology and processes quickly
- Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
- Results oriented and high commitment
- Use scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes
- Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
- Creative / innovative problem solving
- Thoroughly carry assignments to completion
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC / DESGN) methodology
- Lean Manufacturing techniques
- Experience with experimental design
- Translate engineering solutions to requirements, then further to process and/or equipment designs which deliver on required performance criteria

The range for this position is $70,302.00 - $96,665.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
