Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Scope of Position:

Lead and participate on project teams developing and integrating new products and new manufacturing technology into operations to expand product portfolio, reduce cost, increase capacity or improve process capability.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Support Plant Safety programs to provide a safe working environment
  • Lead and support new product projects and workstreams developing capability to meet product quality and cost objectives
  • Develop OEE targets and define project milestones to deliver to these
  • Design and execute experiments; analyze data and report conclusion and recommendations
  • Define systems and processes to drive process control and process discipline for performance and quality repeatability
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges
  • Serve as a process resource for troubleshooting of production equipment and processes
  • Manage internal and external vendor resources to complete project deliverables
  • Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, engineering, development and commercial

 

Projects involved with:

  • Development, scale up, and integration of new products into operations
  • Reducing manufacturing costs (through select/yield improvements)
  • Increasing manufacturing capacity and/or capability

 

Travel Requirements: Minimal – domestic travel may occasionally be required but would be exception

 

Hours:

  • Typically work schedule will be Monday – Friday 8-5PM, although expect to have flexibility to support off-hours and weekend work for troubleshooting or experimentation as needed

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS/MS in Ceramic/Materials, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing environment

 

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated project leadership aptitude and familiar with project management tools to efficiently and effectively deliver to project goals
  • Ability to work with production, development, and other engineering organizations to assist in successful transition of new products, processes, and technologies to manufacturing
  • Strong fundamental understanding of basic engineering principles and the ability to solve difficult technical problems
  • Technical capability conducive to building proficiency in solving manufacturing processes and evaluating data
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively

 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of the product development process
  • Experience with ceramic manufacturing processes and technologies
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience
  • Proficient with statistical software, such as JMP or Minitab, SPC Excel, or other statistical software
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvement and hands-on troubleshooting of process equipment
  • Application of the scientific method to solve challenging problems
  • Familiar with CAD/Solidworks drawings
