Scope of Position:
Plans, coordinates, & controls projects of moderate complexity to develop new products with improved process capability, quality, cost, & capacity. Supervises and participates in the development of technical & non-technical solutions to complex problems associated with product, process, & manufacturing systems. Transfers products to manufacturing.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
• Establish requirements with internal customers. Interpret project scope & set strategy. Define & execute plans to assess key risks. Drive Manufacturing Innovation Excellence (MIE) practices.
• Manage new product projects: Schedule, spend planning & forecasting, project updates, etc.
• Manage generation of new product samples on manufacturing assets: preliminary customer exploration samples, through validation & manufacturing scale-up. Support Plant Safety programs to provide a safe working environment.
• Work with Development to understand product/process design. Leverage this interaction to provide inputs that would maximize manufacturing robustness, and to solve problems that arise during scale-up.
• Consult with manufacturing, engineering, & development experts to outline a path to meeting capability, quality, cost, & capacity targets. Apply engineering fundamentals to solve problems.
• Design and execute experiments; analyze data and report conclusions & recommendations.
• Define systems and processes to drive process control and process discipline for performance & quality repeatability.
• Conduct project meetings and document key issues, action items and decisions. Direct day-to-day team activities &/or supervise team members. Projects involved with:
• Scale up and integration of new products
• Reducing manufacturing costs through select & overall OEE improvements
• Increasing manufacturing quality, capacity and/or capability
Travel Requirements:
Minimal Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40+ hours, Monday – Friday. Typically 8:00AM – 5:00PM. Support for off-hour experiments, troubleshooting, & production days as required.
Required Education & Experience:
• BS or MS in Ceramic/Materials, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum 2 years of experience in manufacturing environment (can include internships and co-ops)
• Process Project Leadership experience; Some experience supervising small teams of technicians &/or engineers.
Required Skills:
• Strong fundamental understanding of basic engineering principles and the ability to solve difficult technical problems
• Technical aptitude conducive to building proficiency in troubleshooting manufacturing processes and evaluating data
• Ability to work with production and other engineering organization to assist in successful transition of new developments to production customers
• Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively;
• Basic Project Management skills Desired Skills:
• Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience; Statistical analysis skill or training
• Proficiency with MS Excel, SPC Excel, Minitab, JMP, and/or or other statistical software
• Demonstrated experience with hands-on troubleshooting of processes & equipment
• Lean error proofing experience
• Application of the scientific method

• Good oral and written communication skills
• Works well in diverse, cross functional team environment
• Acts and make decisions in the best interest of the business
