Scope of Position:

  • Leads new product and process development work-streams
  • Focus area is Celcor Finishing, primarily supporting Heavy Duty Diesel
  • Processes include plugging, skinning, machining, handling, and metrology
  • Participates in development of technical & non-technical solutions to problems associated with product, process and manufacturing system
  • Transfers product to manufacturing per set criteria
  • Use the scientific method to drive to fundamental understanding, identified capability gaps and deliver step change improvements in process capability, product attributes/quality, and improved process understanding.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong process engineering skills for new product and process development
  • Use rigorous tools to deliver results including situation, potential problem, and decision analyses, risk assessments, DMAIC, and/or Innovation methodologies.
  • Work in a cross-functional environment: link between development, quality, commercial, and manufacturing to deliver new HDD product capabilities.
  • Experimental design to determine main effects as well as interactions and optimize important processes and/or reduce variability
  • Effective communications: translate work, solutions, and directions into presentations to leadership that can be understood and are actionable
  • Support individual or multiple plants within CET
  • Use the scientific method to drive for fundamental understanding
  • Use engineering principles and data to solve problems, including production issues

 

Projects Involved with:

  • Scale up and integration of new products
  • Increase manufacturing quality, capacity and /or capability
  • Support defining & executing long term Finishing strategies

 

Travel Requirements: minimal

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40+ hours, Monday – Friday.
  • Typically 8-5
  • Support for off hours experiments and troubleshooting as required

 

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in an engineering field (Ceramic, Materials, or Chemical, with mechanical aptitude preferred)
  • 1+ years’ experience in manufacturing, engineering or development (inclusive of internships as well)
  • Leadership potential demonstrated on project teams responsible for implementation of new processes or equipment into manufacturing

 

Required Skills:

  • Ability to develop new product & processes and ability to identify new technology needs, capability constraints
  • Ability to identify & clearly articulate problem statements and solution paths
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
  • Results oriented and high commitment. Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers.
  • Working knowledge of MS Excel, including formulas and graphing functions, JMP, use data to drive to solutions
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • Demonstrated leadership or teamwork in accomplishing common goals
  • Basic knowledge of Six Sigma (DMAIC) methodology
