Scope of Position:

The position is for a process engineer in the Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) division, with a focus on machining technology in the Integrated Die Manufacturing Plant. This role will report into the Plant Process Engineering group. The responsibilities for this role include project and production support in the form of process troubleshooting, delivering cost and capability improvements, conducting experimentation geared towards fundamental process understanding, capacity improvements and leading equipment upgrades/new vendor qualifications and overall process ownership. The role will also serve as a receiver of new die technology into the facility. Corning Environmental Technologies is a division that produces engine after-treatment products, such as catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters. These products are being used to clean the air, reducing the amount of soot and harsh chemicals released into our environment.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

The candidate will split time between direct production support and project work. The project work portion would include both leading and supporting multiple project efforts, so organization and time management skills are required. The candidate will also be responsible for developing experiments and working closely with module personnel and their colleagues within the Operations group to execute these experiments on time and within budget. The candidate will be responsible for traveling to vendor sites occasionally, for technology assessments, audits and machine qualifications. The candidate will be part of a larger engineering team and will be required to frequently deliver communications on the status of their project, and clearly identify roadblocks to schedule/budget. The candidate will need to use statistics and six sigma tools to evaluate processes and equipment and recommend direction.


Travel Requirements: Minimal. Some domestic travel with overnight hotel stays should be expected, dependent on project assignments. Typical travel requirement is 10% or less.


Required Education and Experience:

  • BS or MS degree in an Engineering field (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Science or Manufacturing Technology). Experience within Manufacturing is preferred.
  • 2+ years of technical experience in a process engineering role (time may include internships and co-ops)


Required Skills:

  • Technical competence in basic process engineering
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Use of data to drive process improvements
  • The ability to organize and lead small groups of cross functional teams
  • Process rigor as it pertains to process control and documentation
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem solving
  • Manufacturing experience in a factory setting
  • Ability to manage and prioritize work across multiple projects
  • MS Office proficiency (Outlook, Access, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)


Desired Skills:

  • Track record of successfully delivering technical projects to manufacturing
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, or willingness to get certified
  • Statistical software competence
  • Experiment Design (DOE) familiarity
  • Documentation (technical writing), machine specification, SOP guides, and machine qualifications
  • Basic understanding of Corning Environmental Technology Products, Filters and Substrates
  • Experience working in a Union environment
  • Inspection equipment experience
  • Multi operational machining experience
