Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.



  • In this role, you will use your creativity, good judgment, and flexibility to reduce defects by eliminating root causes.
  • You will work with suppliers to improve performance and ensure that the measurement/inspection system meets the customer’s needs.
  • You will also have the opportunity to improve processes and solve problems based on fundamental understanding gained through the use of the scientific method by applying MEE, 6-Sigma and advanced statistical tools.
  • Improving manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yields, cycle time, and safety are other areas you can strive to positively effect by evaluating new raw materials, new equipment, or new process parameters.
  • You are also responsible for documenting SOP, SOS, experiment planning, and process changes and your projects could support any Corning division or research and development.
  • Your prior process experience and leadership will be leveraged to establish, grow, and maintain a strong PC/PD culture within the CMS facility



  • Leads (either directly or through influence) manufacturing process improvements, variability reduction, defect reduction, process control, capacity and 6-Sigma projects.
  • Leads and supports problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution
  • Leads and supports projects involving process development, capability improvement, and cost reduction
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges. Coaches and mentors the Process Engineering team to develop and hone these skills.
  • Demonstrates personal use of engineering tools and methodologies such as MEE, KT-PA, etc. to understand and address root causes of production issues, sets the example for the process engineering team on how these tools should be applied.
  • Conducts experimentation to expand process understanding and support technology deployment
  • Gives presentations to leadership to provide updates on active workstreams



  • A minimum of BS in chemical, mechanical, materials, ceramic, electrical, statistics, industrial engineering. 



  • 5+ years of experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding.
  • Manufacturing experience with high temperature processing of molten metals and metal forming/fabrication a plus



  • Effective technical leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated track record of on time delivery within budget; ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing tools
  • Ability to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures
  • Creative/innovative problem solving
  • Proved track record of utilizing process excellence (PEX) tools and SPC to monitor and improve process performance
  • Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization
  • Excellent Analytical Skills - Decision-making based on data
  • Prior experience in a plant or division engineering group
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong data analysis, interpretation and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in using software packages such as JMP, Minitab and Power-BI to analyze and display data

  • Experience with application of 6-Sigma methods
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in process improvement, measurement, characterization or materials processing (metal processing a plus - ex: foundry, rolling, welding, fabrication)
