Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.

Role Purpose

To plan, support and lead workstreams on process and/or technology projects, including:

  • Improve existing manufacturing processes and capabilities
  • Develop or support new manufacturing technologies and methods
  • Develop and apply new and existing product attribute characterization methods
  • Develop methods and processes for the manufacture and characterization of new products
  • Develop methods, measurements and processes to improve existing products
  • Support manufacturing improvement initiatives including variability reduction, defect reduction, process control improvement, and 6-Sigma

Key Responsibilities

To provide engineering proficiency and innovation for equipment, processes, and measurement technologies within the Environmental Technologies - Division Engineering Technology Group.  Lead and support through process technology and engineering project sub-teams.  Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, organize, and execute major workstreams on projects to deliver improvement and step change capabilities
  • Project work scope typically includes design, development, manufacturing installation, start-up and acceptance of equipment and processes
  • Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution
  • Role includes individual contributor and project workstream leadership responsibilities
  • Manage internal Corning and external vendor resources to complete project deliverables
  • Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges
  • Support development and execution of the Division technology strategy, roadmap and project portfolio
  • Support problem-solving in manufacturing, including root cause identification and resolution
  • Apply process engineering knowledge, skills and experience from concept through delivery of process and equipment at manufacturing locations.
  • Support multiple plants within CET
  • Provide project workstream support, technical and process engineering skills to meet department goals and objectives
  • Member of Division Engineering Process Integration Department focused on through process technology and equipment improvement
  • Work with and facilitate alignment between manufacturing, development, engineering and process experts to deliver step change and improvement of process or equipment capabilities towards through process technology

Experiences/Education - Required

  • BS/MS in an engineering discipline (ceramic, mechanical, materials, or chemical preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience required
  • Technical competence in process or mechanical engineering; including chemical, ceramic, or material science with a process and mechanical engineering aptitude
  • Aptitude for successfully developing and delivering technical projects or process improvements into manufacturing
  • Aptitude for measurement, characterization or ceramics processing technologies
  • Project leadership aptitude, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team
  • Achieve results through application of rigorous project management methods, such as 6-Sigma
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making
  • Provide process engineering skills for scale-up of new processes and products and root cause understanding for scale-up production issues
  • Experimental design to determine main effects, as well as, interactions and optimize important processes and/or reduce variability
  • Effective communications: translate work, solutions, and directions into presentations to leadership that can be understood and are actionable
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making
  • Travel should be expected, dependent on project assignments.  International travel is possible - Typical travel requirement is ~25%

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Project leadership aptitude, including ability to achieve results through matrix organization or team
  • Demonstrated results developing and delivering step change innovations to manufacturing
  • Skills and experience with statistical process control and Design of Experiments methods
  • Experience with application of KT, MEE, DMAIC and MIE methodologies, as well as, 6-Sigma methods
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in process improvement, measurement, characterization or ceramics processing
  • Experience in manufacturing, engineering or development

The range for this position is $83,750.00 - $115,156.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
