Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.
Scope of Position:
Participates or leads project teams to support existing and new product manufacturing processes that reduce cost, increase capacity, and improve process capability. This role also provides equipment engineering support and expertise to manufacturing and development, with a strong focus on continuous improvement, cost‑reduction initiatives, and troubleshooting.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Recommend and implement long-range solutions to process and or equipment-related problems within the plant.
- Design and/or specify new, or modify existing, manufacturing processes or equipment to continually improve manufacturing performance. Track the effectiveness of implemented cost reduction projects.
- Identify, justify, and implement cost reduction measures. Coordinate installation, debugging, and initial operation of new equipment and systems.
- Provide timely and efficient support to meet or exceed the requirements of internal and external customers related to process or equipment issues.
- Assume responsibility for product and/or equipment receivership on projects from corporate engineering, division engineering, etc.
- Work with trades and operators to troubleshoot and resolve process and/or equipment issues in a timely manner.
- Support new product introduction by designing systems and processes for robust process control and discipline, while setting OEE targets and key project milestones.
- Work closely within the manufacturing organization to support continuous flow operations.
- Ensure best practices are communicated, evaluated, and implemented.
- Work in a cross-functional environment: link between development, quality, commercial, and manufacturing to deliver the best possible solution
- Design and execute experiments; analyze data and report conclusion and recommendations.
- Use structured data analysis methods, including basic statistics
- Use of rigorous tools to deliver results including problem analysis, potential problem analysis, risk assessment, DMAIC methodology, innovation, and basic statistics
Required Education and Experience:
- BS in Mechanical, Ceramic/Materials, or Industrial Engineering
- Minimum of 0-3 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing
Required Skills:
- Data analysis and statistics (ability to draw conclusions)
- Communication skills (oral/written)
- Strong fundamental understanding of basic engineering principles and the ability to solve difficult technical problems
- Technical aptitude conducive to building proficiency in troubleshooting manufacturing processes and evaluating data
- Ability to work with production and other engineering organizations to assist in successful transition of new developments to production customers
- Ability to balance multiple projects effectively
Desired Skills:
- AutoCAD/Solid works design capability
- Formal problem-solving skills
- CET experience
- Manufacturing experience
- Mechanical design
- Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience
- Lean error proofing experience
- Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulics, material handling, batching, dust collection, machine alignment principals and systems, fluid dynamics, kinetics, strength of materials, or thermodynamics
- Proficiency with MS Excel, SPC Excel, and/or Minitab or other statistical software
- Demonstrated experience with hands-on troubleshooting of process equipment
Soft Skills:

Travel Requirements: Minimal
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Typically 8-5 M-F, including off-hour, weekend, and holiday hours as needed to support 24/7 manufacturing operation.

The range for this position is $70,776.00 - $97,317.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
