Role Purpose
Corning is hiring a Process Engineer based in Corning, NY. This is an onsite role with relocation assistance available. Travel is a key part of the position and typically runs 50% or more depending on project needs, primarily within the U.S., with occasional international travel.
For engineers who want more variety, more real-world problem solving, and more exposure than a typical plant-based role can offer, this position provides a unique opportunity to work across multiple manufacturing sites, technologies, and business areas. You will be brought into important projects where process engineering support is needed most—whether that means helping with ramp-ups, new equipment, process changes, quality issues, or manufacturing performance improvements. It is a strong fit for someone who wants to stay close to operations, build broad experience quickly, and make a visible impact in the field rather than following a purely office-based design path.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the design and development of new processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide
- Lead yourself and teams towards solving problems and improving processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma
- Lead the implementation of Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations, as well as, use your analytical skills to analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.)
- Other responsibilities include measuring and communicating performance against established objectives, reviewing and interpreting data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc., and documenting processes and mentoring operators and peers on defined processes
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelors degree in chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering
- 5+ years hands-on experience in engineering/manufacturing with a track record of successfully solving process problems based on fundamental understanding
- Demonstrated use of scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes and experiment plans
- Ability to determine and recommend best solution from a series of alternatives within production facility guidelines
- Strong data analysis and statistical skills; Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Minitab, or equivalent
- Basic process capability / run charting and trend charting experience
- Deep knowledge of Process excellence
- Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization – including communication (written and verbal to leadership) and appropriate documentation
- Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
- Willing and able to travel an average of 50% primarily domestically with rates above or under depending on project phases and priorities
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- MS chemical, materials, ceramic or mechanical engineering
- Prior experience in a plant or division engineering group
- Strong internal Corning network
- Performance Excellence training - ideally, green belt or higher certification - LEAN Manufacturing
- PMP certification
- Mechanical aptitude/equipment understanding

The range for this position is $97,286.00 - $133,768.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
