Scope of Position:
- Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects.
- Support manufacturing improvement initiatives, including fundamental understanding, variability reduction, defect reduction and process control improvement.
- Improve existing manufacturing processes and capabilities with a focus on machining technology
- Develop methods and processes to improve existing products.
- Develop methods and processes to implement new die technology and processes.
- Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems.
- Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Provide engineering expertise and leadership for process technologies within identified modules/work areas in the IDM facility
- Manufacturing problem solving as needed in support of operations, including root cause identification and resolution.
- Apply knowledge of engineering principles and methods to resolve challenges.
- Engages with Die Development teams to support new die introductions through equipment installation, process certification, documentation, and training.
- Trains operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes.
- Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps.
- Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects.
- Trouble shoots material, process and equipment issues, identifies root cause and implements corrective action.
- Implements and documents material, process and/or equipment changes.
- Uses simple statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem solving and process improvement; Uses more sophisticated statistical tools and DOE techniques in problem solving and process/product improvement.
- Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products.
- Assures safety of operators and equipment and complies with safety and environmental regulations.
- Develops SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering.
- Executes cost reduction and improvement (DMAIC) projects in line with business objectives.
Travel Requirements:
- Very little travel expected (<5%)
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
- Standard hours (M-F 8-5)
- Flexible hours may be required to support off-hours experimentation on weekends and evenings.
Education and Experience:
- BS or MS in Engineering (Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical, or Manufacturing Technology)
- 3-5 years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Exposure to Lean and Six Sigma principles
Required Skills:
- Technical competence and mechanical aptitude in machining process engineering
- Aptitude for successfully driving to root cause and implementing step change improvement in manufacturing.
- Project leadership aptitude, including ability to achieve results through teams.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at technical problem-solving and decision-making.
- Track record of troubleshooting and supporting manufacturing processes through PCPD, LEAN, and DMAIC improvements
- Strong use data analysis and interpretation to drive process improvements
- Strongly results oriented.
- Able to handle multiple complex tasks and set priorities with multiple internal customers.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Access, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
- Practical experience with basic statistics, familiarity with advanced statistical methods.
- The ability to organize and lead small groups of cross functional teams
Desired Skills:
- Six Sigma Green Belt trained
- Demonstrated technical expertise in process improvement, measurement, characterization or ceramics processing
- Statistical software competence
- Documentation (technical writing), machine specification SOP guides and machine qualifications
- Basic understanding of Corning Environmental Tecnology Products, Filters and Subtsrates
- Experience working in a Union environment
- Inspection equipment experience
- Experience with External vendors and equipment suppliers

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
