Day to Day Responsibilities:

Through an understanding of customer problem statements, you will identify potential solutions as you collaborate with colleagues across the company, develop novel approaches to solve complex problems, and make quick critical experiments to demonstrate feasibility.


Additional responsibilities include:

• Planning, designing, development, and testing of optical and/or optomechanical components, systems, and instruments as you seek to solve problems of diverse scope;

• Generating concept packages for review with clients and technical teams;

• Designing and executing experiments, providing data analysis, and providing guidance to teams;

• Interacting with project team members in collaborating fields (optics, mechanics, electronics, software, etc.);

• Working in a lab environment and will correlate critical experiments results with modeling results;

• Purchasing equipment, tracking delivery, and receipt of material for projects.


Required Skills:

Someone who is practical, capable, and passionate about learning quickly with an inventive nature is a necessity.

• Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related degree with 0-3 years’ experience or MS with 6-10 years of industrial experience designing and testing optical devices, systems, or products.

• Experience in optical design of light management systems and components using CAD software such as Zemax or Oslo.

• Demonstrated ability to integrate optics, hardware, electronics, and software.

• Capability of developing experiment plans (DOE), laboratory set-up, and executing experiments.

• Ability for occasional international and domestic travel based on business needs. A reasonable estimate is 1-3 trips per year.


Desired Skills:

• Data processing experience with programming platform such as MATLAB (or equivalent software) and/or familiarity with LabVIEW.

• Project planning and management experience.

• Well-developed social and communication skills with an ability to work both independently and in high-performance interdisciplinary teams.
