Scope of the Position: We are offering a unique job opportunity to conduct research in an exciting field of next-generation communications systems! This job provides a wide range of opportunities to invent and bring to realization new life-changing next-generation Communication technologies for the 5G Mobile Communication era and beyond. The successful candidate will work closely with teams of outstanding Research Scientists and Engineers located at our historical state-of-art research center in Corning, NY, as well as other global locations.

 

The successful candidate will drive research projects focusing on mmWave propagation, interaction with materials, devices and transmission systems. In addition, the candidate will play a key role in building laboratory testing and evaluation capabilities for mmWave channel models and transmission systems. He/She will perform channel sounding measurements for developing statistical channel impulse response models in time and space for Corning’s future products. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the creation of relevant IP to protect key inventions related to novel wireless solutions.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: • Propose, and execute research projects/activities involving mmWave systems and radio propagation investigations • Perform channel sounding measurements for developing statistical channel impulse response models in time and space. • Use mmWave channel models for mmWave system design • Work closely with other research scientists, engineers and technicians to execute multi-disciplinary experiments • Collaborate on various materials and wireless system projects and execute technology transfer with various Development organizations in Corning, NY, and other Corning sites.

 

Travel requirements: ~5 % travel - some international

Hours of work/work schedule: 40 hours/week, with extended hours if needed.

 

Education: MSc. or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or equivalent.

 

Required Experience: Minimum 3 years industrial experience with emphasis on radio propagation and mmWave system design is required for MSc. degree holders. PhD degree holders without previous industrial experience are also eligible to apply.

 

Required Skills: • Strong background in communications theory, with emphasis on mmWave wireless systems and multiple antenna technologies. • Expert understanding of radio channel propagation concepts • Experience with mmWave signal interaction with materials (including diffraction, scattering, etc.) and devices. • Direct laboratory experience with channel sounding measurements for developing statistical channel impulse response models in time and space. • Ability to analyze and resolve highly complex technical problems quickly and independently. • Familiarity with NR and LTE standards and 5G concepts • Proven track record of research contributions and publications in leading and internationally recognized conferences and journals

 

Desired Skills: • Working knowledge of digital signal processing techniques • Experience with high-frequency circuit and electromagnetic (EM) simulators such as Cadence, ADS, MWO, and HFSS would be an advantage • Previous experience in leading projects
