Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): This position is for an engineer or physicist to join our nano-scale optics research laboratory. Our lab focuses on investigating the interaction of light and structured optical materials and their applications in various fields such as optical communications, display technologies, augmented and virtual reality and others. We constantly add to our experimental capabilities, which today include measurement benches for nano-waveguides, structured optical surfaces, optical fibers and various linear and nonlinear optics experiments. In this role, the candidate will work with senior scientists in research projects and be responsible to design, build and conduct new experiments, including programming to collect, process and interpret data. The candidate will also assist in maintaining an organized laboratory environment including inventory management, instrument calibration, ordering of supplies, and maintaining detailed experimental records. The ideal candidate should have basic training in optics (free space and fiber optics), electronics, opto-mechanical systems and programming. We are looking for someone with positive attitude and ready to be a team player.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with team members as well as colleagues from other departments and be active member of our research projects;

• Work with and assist senior scientists to design, set-up, program and conduct experiments in optics;

• Document experimental procedures, results and data analysis. Support writing of internal research reports, invention disclosures and journal and conference publications;

• Maintain an organized and safe laboratory environment, including inventory management, instrument calibration, ordering of supplies, and experimental records;

Travel requirements (please note if international): <10%

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/week
