Scope of Position:
The successful candidate would work in the Micro and Nano Optics (MNO) research department of the Science and Technology Division. MNO combines deep understanding of display, light sources, and sensing systems with fundamental research in structured materials to develop new advantaged optical products. As part of Corning Global Research, we leverage world-class expertise and capabilities in optical metrology, material finishing, and replication in our 2,000,000 sq ft laboratory in upstate New York and our research centers across the globe. From consumer electronics to quantum communications, MNO’s scientists understand our customer’s needs, translate those needs into hypotheses, and execute the design, modeling, and experiments required to test those hypotheses.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Develop optical components for display, consumer electronics, photonics, or other emerging technology areas
- Model, design, and measure optical structures that produce desired refractive, diffractive, or scattering properties
- Work closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to develop and execute experiment plans
- Build subject matter expertise in optics, materials, and fabrication disciplines; consult with commercial peers in various business units
- Document knowledge in formal and informal reports
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering or other relevant field with 5+ years of experience
- Demonstrated working knowledge of optics and optical properties of materials
- Practical experience in experimental optics
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desired Skills:
- Experience in applied research setting
- Experience working on interdisciplinary teams
- Experience with advanced computational techniques such as machine learning or computational optics
- Experience in vision or color science

This position supports immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $98,794.00 - $135,842.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
