Corning is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer – Industrial and Lean Engineering to join our team in Corning, NY. This role supports manufacturing and business teams across Corning locations and requires approximately 50–60% domestic travel. Relocation assistance is available.

This is a high-impact, senior technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex manufacturing and business challenges. You will apply Industrial Engineering, Lean principles, manufacturing systems thinking, and Theory of Constraints to improve the flow of products, materials, information, and decisions across operations. Projects may include resolving constraints on an active production line, increasing capacity and productivity, reducing inventory and cost, or building models and analyses that help leaders evaluate major manufacturing investments. You will work directly with plant and business teams to turn data and on-the-floor observations into practical, sustainable results—while coaching less-experienced engineers and strengthening the team’s Industrial and Lean Engineering capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply Industrial Engineering, Lean Principles, Systems Thinking, and Theory of Constraints to improve product and information flow, increase capacity, reduce inventory and complexity, and lower cost.
  • Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives across manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, and business operations.
  • Conduct current-state and future-state assessments, value stream analyses, and operational performance evaluations.
  • Identify and prioritize productivity, throughput, capacity, cost reduction, and process simplification opportunities across multiple facilities and organizations.
  • Develop and execute project plans, including requirements, deliverables, resources, timelines, milestones, stakeholder engagement, and risk mitigation.
  • Develop and deploy data visualization solutions that enable operational decision-making and clear performance reporting.
  • Apply advanced Industrial Engineering methods, including capacity analysis, manufacturing flow analysis, labor productivity improvement, cost modeling, and facility optimization.
  • Communicate recommendations, project status, business impact, and technical findings through presentations, dashboards, and technical documentation.
  • Coach and mentor engineers, analysts, and operational teams, and serve as a technical resource to manufacturing and business leaders.
  • Develop standards, methodologies, best practices, and technical documentation that strengthen organizational capability and institutional knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Engineering Management, or another relevant engineering or technical discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience in Industrial Engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, operations excellence, systems engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale, cross-functional manufacturing improvement or business transformation initiatives.
  • Deep practical knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Systems Thinking, Theory of Constraints, capacity analysis, value-stream improvement, and manufacturing flow optimization.
  • Experience using data and visualization tools, such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms, to analyze operational performance and communicate actionable insights.
  • Strong project leadership, stakeholder management, facilitation, written communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to influence across functions and organizations.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience with discrete event simulation software such as SIMUL8, FlexSim, AnyLogic, or similar platforms.
  • Experience applying Operations Research, optimization, decision analytics, or mathematical modeling techniques.
  • Experience using Python for analytics, automation, optimization, or modeling.
  • Experience with advanced analytics, data preparation, workflow automation, or predictive modeling.
  • Lean, Theory of Constraints, or related operational excellence certification.
  • Experience working across multiple plants, business units, or global operations.
