Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Practice and promote safe work practices; identify safety concerns and provide solutions

• Lead efforts for equipment engineering design, estimating costs, defining project scopes, budgets and schedules

• Work with cross-functional teams to develop, deliver, and/or receive new technology, either mid-campaign or in preparation for process rebuilds

• Generate and review concepts using 3D CAD and lead detailed design reviews for peers, internal customers and managers.

• Perform engineering level simulations, potentially including stress, vibration and thermal evaluations using simulation models as input to the design process. Work with modeling groups for more complex modeling needs which feed into the design process.

• Interface with external vendors on specifying and procuring various products, fixtures and machine components to support projects

• Document results, unique learnings, and new equipment knowledge in R-Reports, Invention Disclosures, and/or technical presentations, as appropriate

• Maintain records and track expenditures against allocated funds. Estimate time required to accomplish tasks and monitor performance against schedules.

• Develop standard operating procedures to build R&D scale glass making equipment and work with team members to ensure quality build standards.

• Participate in problem-solving using root cause analysis tools such as KT, MEE

• Provide second level troubleshooting and work with the equipment maintenance organizations.


Travel requirements (please note if international): <10%


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

Normal Business Hours (8 – 5, M – F)

Work hours required to achieve objectives may exceed 40 hours per week during process rebuilds, process start-ups or to address equipment/facility related issues.


Education and Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Masters of Science in technical field (preference for Mechanical Engineering)

• 7-15 years in a technical field which includes equipment design


Desired Skills:

• Broad equipment design and manufacturing experiences

• Significant experience communicating effectively with internal and external customers

• Experience with vendor interaction for the fabrication of parts, assemblies, or large integrated systems

• Knowledge of facility systems and services

• SolidWorks Certification – CSWP or CSWE

• Results oriented, forward looking with a strong level of commitment


Soft Skills:

• Excellent organization and time management skills, able to respond quickly to short-term issues while still making progress on long-term projects/goals

• Project management experience and knowledge of MS Project

• Ability to interfacing with all levels of the organization and collaborate across organizational boundaries

• Ability to achieve results individually and through project teams; champion new ideas; lead by example; provide constructive feedback to co-workers

• Ability to build new technical relationships with team members, system integrators and/or external sub-contractors during the development of new process equipment
