Corning is hiring a Staff Electrical Power Engineer based in Corning, NY (preferred) or Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is available. Travel averages approximately 50%, primarily within the U.S., with occasional international travel based on business needs. Travel requirements will vary based on project scope and phase and may exceed the average during periods of active project work.
This high-impact role sits on Corning’s Capital Projects and Facilities Engineering team and focuses on the design, analysis, and implementation of industrial electrical power systems for major facility expansions, infrastructure upgrades, greenfield projects, and new equipment installations across the company. You will serve as a corporate technical resource, working across multiple Corning sites to lead and support power-system design, technical reviews, equipment troubleshooting, and project execution from early scoping through commissioning and turnover.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust, reliable, and cost-effective electrical power systems for facility expansions, equipment installations, infrastructure upgrades, and greenfield facilities.
- Participate in all phases of projects, including design, fabrication, integration and testing, installation, production startup support, commissioning, training, and turnover.
- Manage the electrical engineering scope of process improvements, capital expansions, and power reliability projects.
- Scope and define electrical power projects, including development of cost models, resource plans, timelines, project metrics, and technical requirements.
- Support the design, analysis, and implementation of medium- and low-voltage facility electrical power distribution systems.
- Conduct or support short-circuit current calculations, protection and coordination studies, arc flash studies, and system reliability calculations.
- Lead or support failure analysis, root-cause investigation, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment and power-system issues.
- Partner with internal project teams, facilities stakeholders, consultants, and vendors to support technical decisions and successful project execution.
- Support and help maintain corporate standards for facility electrical power distribution systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 7+ years of relevant electrical power engineering experience.
- Experience designing and analyzing industrial electrical power systems and equipment, including transformers, switchgear, UPS, ATS, industrial control panels, and/or industrial machinery.
- Strong knowledge of medium- and low-voltage power systems, including power distribution, control design, power-system analysis, and solid-state components such as SCRs and IGBTs.
- Experience conducting or supporting short-circuit, protection and coordination, arc flash, and system reliability studies.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical equipment and supporting failure analysis/root-cause investigations, with knowledge of applicable electrical safety practices and standards, including OSHA and NFPA.
- Ability to scope and execute electrical power projects, including developing cost/resource plans and timelines and supporting work through commissioning and turnover; able to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) for industrial electrical equipment or power-system installations.
- Experience conducting failure and root-cause analysis involving high-power industrial control cabinets, transformers, or related equipment.
- Knowledge of power-system reliability, system automation, maintenance programs, and operations.
- Working knowledge of relevant standards, such as NFPA 70B, NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1, GB 5226.1, IEEE 493, NETA ATS, and NETA MTS.
- Professional Engineer license, or willingness to obtain licensure.

The range for this position is $105,994.00 - $145,743.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
