Scope of Position:

Systems Engineer in the Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) Division Engineering Measurements & Controls group. Serve as a measurements resource for division process improvement and capital expansion projects. Division level contact for manufacturing support of installed measurement systems. Project focus will be on the implementation of automated systems in Corning's manufacturing plants and processes.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Capital Project Assignments

  • Actively participate in all phases of the project including design, fabrication, off-line integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel and technology transfer.
  • Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated process equipment systems to Corning’s plants on-time, on-budget, and that satisfy performance measures
  • Report on project activities on a pre-determined basis. Ensure results meet the customer’s requirements as well as applicable national and international equipment design standards.
  • Individual will build the capability of leading the measurements efforts assigned to project assignments, in a team-based environment. This assignment may include resource planning, systems design, and the coordination of build and installation activities. Measurements Systems Support
  • Understand and implement hardware and software for measurement systems.
  • Support troubleshooting, updating and enhancing existing plant measurement systems.
  • Individual will build the capability of leading the transition projects designed to transfer technologies from development activities (Stage 3 and 4) to production ready systems (Stage 5). Measurement Systems Development
  • Lead or support of small development efforts for measurement systems extension or expansion to other product lines or applications.
  • Member of cross-functional project teams responsible for concept generation / certification, technology development, detail design / build, and start-up of automation and process machine systems in manufacturing.
  • Participate in the development of software architectures, software functional specification, and system integration requirements that will satisfy process and manufacturing requirements

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 25% - 50% international and/or domestic (average of two weeks at a time).
  • Longer term travel assignments for larger projects may be required with advanced notice.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or Optics.
  • Some experience with vision systems (can include graduate work) will be viewed as differentiating the candidate.

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience with structured text programming
  • Knowledge of databases
  • Background in computer programs like Halcon, Matrox Vision Library, MatLab, Labview, WiT, etc.
  • Base understanding of statistical analysis such as histograms, regression, standard deviation, gauge R&R, etc.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of instrumentation (e.g. sensors) and vision systems technologies
  • Experience with image spatial calibration (2D and 3D)
  • Some exposure to laser and ultrasonic technologies
  • Experience with precision optical systems
  • Background in C# programming
  • Course work or experience with using tools such as AutoCad, Simulink etc.
  • Controls/Electrical Experience in Manufacturing
  • Some knowledge of equipment engineering, process support and debug
