Scope of Position
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Thermal Process Engineering Intern to join our team and support high-temperature material processing projects. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience in glass melting, glass forming, ceramic firing, and/or other high-temperature processes. You will play a key role in assisting the team with designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting thermal processes, contributing to our mission of ensuring efficiency, quality, and sustainability in production processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, development, and optimization of thermal processes at Corning facilities.
- Support the monitoring and evaluation of thermal systems and equipment performance.
- Aid in analyzing process data and material behavior to improve reliability and repeatability.
- Collaborate with R&D, Division Engineering, production, and quality control teams on process improvements.
- Help troubleshoot thermal process-related issues and propose potential solutions.
- Contribute to documenting processes, including creating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process flow diagrams.
- Research advancements in thermal technologies and materials science to support innovation.
- Participate in ensuring adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations related to high-temperature processes.
Required Education and Experience
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Materials Science, Ceramic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous internship or academic project experience is a plus but not required.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in high-temperature material processing (glass melting, forming, ceramics, etc.).
- Basic understanding of thermal dynamics, heat transfer, and material science principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of glass, ceramics, or materials science fundamentals.
- Exposure to data analysis and design of experiments.

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
