Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Polymer Materials Engineering Technician
Position Overview:
The Polymer Materials Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting in the testing and qualification of polymer materials for producing optical connector/hardware components and assemblies. Technician will support product engineers, process engineers and manufacturing plant in analyzing material properties, materials qualification trials, and ensuring the quality, safety and performance of Corning optical connectivity products. This role may involve laboratory work, data analysis, documentation and collaboration with production teams.

Key Responsibilities:
- Material Testing and qualification:
- Conduct physical, chemical, and mechanical testing on polymer materials (e.g., tensile strength, thermal properties, chemical resistance).
- Data Collection and Reporting:
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data from the qualification trials and production processes.
- Technical Support:
- Provide technical assistance to teams working on polymer-related projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education and language:
- Bachelors or associate’s degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Technology, or a related field. A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
- Fluent English and French language skills (written and spoken).
- Desirable Technical Knowledge:
- Understanding of polymer properties, material science, and processing techniques (e.g., extrusion, injection molding).
- Familiarity with laboratory testing methods and equipment.
- Analytical Skills:
- Ability to interpret test results, solve technical problems, and optimize material properties.
- Communication:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with global teams and document findings as well as required language skills (FR+EN).
Preferred Experience:
- Hands-on experience in polymer materials testing, processing.
- Experience with thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers, or composites.
Work Environment:
- Laboratory, manufacturing floor, or research and development facilities.
