Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of the position:

Manage the injection molding workshop including 42 injection molding equipment and 50 employees (permanent and contingence workers) to produce products for Corning Optical Communication division. (All the products are part of the optical fiber network). As this is a newly acquired site by Corning there are further growth opportunities within the plant for extended management responsibility and/or cross functional moves. This is a challenging role with great growth path.

Responsibilities:

  • Located in the manufacturing plant of Pontchateau.
  • Manage a workshop of 50 employees within 7 days 24 hours (2 technicians, 4 team leaders, 44 specialized injection operators and packaging operators)
  • Ensure the safety of the employees with an objective of zero accident.
  • Ensure the product Quality and reinforce the robustness of our processes.
  • Reach the productivity objective in terms of performances and time for change over.
  • Manage the continuous improvement processes with the operators through improvement ideas, SMED and TPM methodologies.
  • Optimize the flow inside the workshop.
  • In case of production issue, manage both curative and corrective actions to ensure the defect is completely solved.
  • Be part of cross functional team to plan the future of the workshop in terms of: technical skill needed, employees and investment.
  • Be part of the plant management team (CODIR) and daily management team meeting

Qualifications of the employee:

  • Engineer school like ISPA (Institut Supérieur de Plasturgie d'Alençon) or Master Degree related industrial qualifications

Requirements concerning education, experience and skills of the employee:

  • Min 5 years experiences in manufacturing positions, with experience of team management
  • Good communication, global team working skills, customer oriented
  • Capable of analysis, of issuing factual data
  • Plastic skills

Required:

  • Good spoken and written French
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Experience of the use of an ERP system in an industrial environment
  • Good knowledge of MS Office (word/excel/power point) even in advanced Excel functions (pivot tables, VLOOKUP functions, …)

Desired:

  • Experience / knowledge of capacity analysis, short term, medium term and long term period.
