Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of enterprise data stewardship practices across divisional and functional DMOs
- Define and maintain stewardship standards, procedures, playbooks, and operating expectations
- Establish clear stewardship roles, responsibilities, decision rights, and escalation paths
- Support the stewardship of business glossaries, data dictionaries, metadata, critical data elements, and curated data products
- Serve as a subject matter expert for stewardship use of the Alation data catalog
- Configure and maintain Alation templates, workflows, and documentation standards to support stewardship processes
- Partner with business stewards, data product owners, and technical teams to improve metadata quality, lineage visibility, and trust in enterprise data
- Collaborate with data governance, data quality, architecture, security, privacy, and compliance teams to align stewardship practices with enterprise requirements
- Develop and monitor stewardship metrics such as metadata completeness, glossary adoption, ownership coverage, certification progress, and issue resolution
- Facilitate stewardship forums, working sessions, and communities of practice across the organization
- Provide training, guidance, and change management support to business data stewards and DMO teams
- Promote data literacy, shared ownership, and adoption of stewardship best practices across the enterprise
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Business, Computer Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in data stewardship, data governance, metadata management, data quality, or a related field
- Experience supporting a federated data governance or data management model
- Strong understanding of data stewardship principles, including ownership, accountability, metadata, data quality, and issue management
- Hands on experience with enterprise data catalog and metadata management tools, preferably Alation
- Proven ability to configure and maintain templates, workflows, and documentation standards within Alation or similar tools
- Experience stewarding or supporting business glossaries, data dictionaries, critical data elements, and curated data assets or data products
- Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively across business, functional, and technical teams in a matrixed environment
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to translate enterprise data management requirements into clear, scalable stewardship processes and standards
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain stewardship expectations and metadata concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience providing leadership, guidance, and mentoring to business stewards, DMO teams, or cross-functional stakeholders
- Ability to navigate ambiguity, make decisions with incomplete information, and build alignment across stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a structured, practical approach and the ability to manage multiple priorities
