Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Meaningful role where you will provide functional leadership and expertise in Mechanical Engineering that improves product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality, and service) and/or advances the innovation process to enable the delivery of new products. 

We provide solutions for increased process selects, increased material utilization, decreased costs, and improvement to product quality by planning, prioritizing and implementing projects. We look for you to craft and analyze first generation/next generation products, processes and/or equipment in support of existing and new product/technologies used in manufacturing! Maintain knowledge of the latest developments in their area of expertise in order to identify and detail any intellectual property developed as part of a project. Focus will be on tubular glass converting, high speed discrete part handling and equipment/mechanical design processes. 

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible to supervise the Advanced Automation Solutions Engineering group for OCS AMER, in charge of the development of key automation solutions for different optic fiber connectorization processes 

  • Committed to expedite solutions that meet the manufacturing plant expectations 

  • Supervise the development of Project Management initiatives, Controls Engineering development and Process Fundamental Understanding 

  • Communicate project status and plans to a broad audiences and leadership groups 

  • Provide mentorship for design, installation and debug of equipment required for next generation manufacturing. These systems will provide ground-breaking cost reduction programs throughout the division and different process areas! 

  • Support defining the roles needed to deliver equipment capability  

  • Building technical proficiency and aligning resources to within the area. 

  • Provide hands on leadership within the process area and equipment needs. 

  • Develop equipment specifications that address critical needs 

  • Build relationships with network of equipment suppliers to deliver to specifications. 

  • Lead team to create and deliver machine specification and troubleshooting documents to plant organizations. 

  • Foster and drive equipment standardization across plants and process areas where possible. 

  • Supervise the definition of technical direction, including vendor selection, as well as managing project forecast and spend. 

  • Provide problem solving and technical expertise, to ensure timely resolution of short-term equipment issues, and higher-level troubleshooting. 

  • Responsible for driving both cost and schedule updates on assigned projects. 

  • Provide specific engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understands theories and fundamentals), and responsible for leading projects to get to root cause of issues and put permanent solutions in place. 

  • Work with equipment vendors and system fabrication and integration shops to deliver new equipment and capabilities. 

  • Supervise the tracking, scheduling and capital management of projects using PV ProjectPlace and PV Portfolios platforms. 

  • Coordinates installation, debugging and initial operation of new equipment and systems. 

  • Meets all Environmental, Safety and Health requirements for automation projects. 

  • Develops SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering. 

Travel Requirements: 

  • Up to 10% of time Internationally. 

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 

  • Standard Monday – Friday business hours. 

 

Required Education: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic, Electronic or similar 

 

Required Years and Area of Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relative experience with equipment design and delivering and supporting systems in manufacturing. 

Required Skills: 

  • Experience in equipment design and understanding of design concepts. 

  • Track record of delivering results and working with outside equipment design and integration firms. 

  • Broad manufacturing and engineering experiences. Must have familiarity with equipment design and controls. 

  • Experience in project leadership (scope to implementation) and in managing projects including the use of project scheduling tools. 

  • Project and/or manufacturing financial management knowledge. 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills: 

  • Experience with Fiber optic  processing technology 

  • Strong preference for understanding of high-speed automated equipment. 

  • Strong experience working with Automation Vendors 

Soft Skills: 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills 

  • Demonstrate strong work ethic. 

  • Communication skills
