Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose

Meaningful role where you will provide functional leadership and expertise in Project Management, Controls Engineering & Mechanical Engineering that improves product, process and/or equipment performance (cost, quality, and service) and/or advances the innovation process to enable the delivery of new products.
We provide solutions for increased process selects, increased material utilization, decreased costs, and improvement to product quality by planning, prioritizing and implementing projects. We look for you to craft and analyze first generation/next generation products, processes and/or equipment in support of existing and new product/technologies used in manufacturing! Maintain knowledge of the latest developments in their area of expertise in order to identify and detail any intellectual property developed as part of a project. Focus will be on tubular glass converting, high speed discrete part handling and equipment/mechanical design processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible to lead a global automation team, that will work alongside automation resources within each of our global footprint to develop and manage the overall automation strategy and drive successful delivery of automation solutions.
- Committed to managing resources that expedite solutions to meet the manufacturing needs.
- Supervise the development of Project Management initiatives, Mechanical Design, Controls Engineering development and Process Fundamental Understanding.
- Communicate project status and plans to broad audiences and leadership groups.
- Provide mentorship for design, installation and debug of equipment required for next generation manufacturing. These systems will provide groundbreaking cost reduction programs throughout the division and different process areas.
- Defining team roles required to deliver capable equipment that is designed for manufacturing.
- Building technical proficiency and align resources within the automation area.
- Provide high level to supervisors and managers to drive leadership within the process area and define specific equipment needs.
- Manage resources that develop equipment specifications to address critical needs.
- Build relationships with a network of equipment suppliers to deliver equipment that meets required specifications.
- Lead highly functional team to create and deliver machine specification and troubleshooting documents to plant organizations.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic, Electronic or similar
- Master in Advanced Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Robotics or Control Systems is a plus
Required Years and Area of Experience:
- Minimum of 10+ years of relative experience with equipment design and delivering and supporting systems in manufacturing.
Required Skills:
- Broad experience in managing highly technical engineering teams.
- Experience in equipment design and understanding of design concepts.
- Track record of delivering results and working with outside equipment design and integration firms.
- Broad manufacturing and engineering experiences. Must have familiarity with equipment design and controls.
- Experience in project leadership (scope to implementation) and in managing projects including the use of project scheduling tools.
- Project and/or manufacturing financial management knowledge.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with Fiber optic processing technology
- Experience with precision automation and micromotion systems
- Strong preference for understanding of high-speed automated equipment.
- Strong experience working with Automation Vendors
