Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Be a technical project lead supporting processes for automation initiatives, integrating strong process engineering expertise with industrial controls knowledge to ensure successful execution of Automation projects and Corning Global Standards. Experience in controls engineering is highly valued, as it enables the engineer to support advanced automation solutions, troubleshoot control systems, and drive integration of PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and vision systems within manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead process definition and documentation of KPIVs and KPOVs, including tolerance ranges and quality criteria.
- Design and execute validation experiments using statistical methods; interpret results and guide next steps.
- Plan and lead Pre-FAT and FAT activities, ensuring process alignment and compliance with acceptance criteria.
- Collaborate with design teams to propose error-proofing solutions and prioritize improvements using Pareto analysis.
- Develop process maps and data collection plans for automation projects.
- Create and maintain technical documentation (MPI, manuals, visual aids) for operation and maintenance.
- Provide clear communication and training to operators, technicians, and engineers on process and controls.
- Support and enhance the integration of control systems (PLC, HMI, SCADA, vision systems), leveraging controls engineering expertise to optimize automation performance, reliability, and safety.
- Identify process gaps, bottlenecks, and risks; propose corrective and preventive actions.
- Drive continuous improvement using statistical monitoring and data-driven decision-making.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical, Automation, or related field.
- Proven experience in industrial automation projects and advanced manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of industrial controls and controls engineering is a plus: PLC, HMI, SCADA, vision systems, instrumentation, and electrical safety.
- Ability to interpret and create technical documentation: electrical diagrams, logic charts, mechanical drawings.
- Experience in project management, SOW development, and process validation.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and design of experiments.
- Excellent teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficient to communicate in English in speaking and reading.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Certifications in automation, controls, or project management.
- Experience with MES/ERP integration and deployment projects.
- Advanced technical English proficiency.
