Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Apply Mechanical, Electrical, Automation skills and knowledge to supporting, the improvement of equipment solutions for OCS manufacturing. Drive toward world class performance of automation and establishing standardized equipment operation and documentation practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Equipment design, deployment, industrialization, and engineering support strategies for OCS manufacturing technologies. Improvement of equipment quality and capability to ensure long-term manufacturing performance.

2. Work on equipment deployment, installation, and successful transition into manufacturing operation at multiple global sites.

3. Support the development and proliferation of new manufacturing technologies and deliver improved equipment capabilities for manufacturing.

4. Provide equipment design, documentation, programming, and prototyping capabilities in support of projects.

5. Support manufacturing equipment transfers, and new equipment procurement, installation and startup as driven by business needs.

6. Project Management

7. Create Appropriations Requests (ARs) to fund projects.

8. Manage project spending to stay within budget.

9. Create and support the establishment of a safe work environment

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Engineering Degree or higher in Engineering discipline
  • Hands on mechanical, controls or programming experience with new equipment technologies.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering business results.
  • Effective technical organizational and planning skills, with ability to handle changing priorities.
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience supporting capital equipment design, procurement, installation and support, especially for automation projects / equipment
  • Working knowledge of OCS / CCS manufacturing products and processes
  • Two to Four years total of manufacturing engineering experience with key experiences in equipment development, build, manufacturing startup and capability improvement
