Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Execute division/regional PEx & Lean strategy to meet and exceed regional business objectives by developing and deploying initiatives that drive operations excellence. Lead / be the role model for ensuring that appropriate statistical analysis, engineering principals, and the scientific method are applied in PEx problem solving and decision-making projects. Leading the establishments of a Lean culture managing continuous improvement throughout the value streams within the plant. This includes foundational and transformational lean.
Key Responsibilities
Report to Regional PEx Champion and works with OCS Global PEx Champion and Plant PEx/Lean Black Belts to define and execute a consistent strategy for the following:

- PEx and Lean development for GB and BB
- On the job training, coaching and mentoring our belts and teams in region on problem solving methodologies
- Development and deployment of new PEx tools and concepts
- PEx and Lean culture deployment in new sites
- Assessing and driving appropriate application of technical rigor throughout the PEx portfolio
- Mentor belts during project execution
- Analyze data to identify root causes of potential issues and inefficiencies as well as areas of opportunity at the different sites and drive resolution.
- Lead/Participate in SWAT teams to address mayor problems/opportunities/complaints to improve processes and reduce defects.
- Develop Belts communities of practice.
- Participate during project review sessions to provide guidance/advice.
- Deploy Lean tools and Six Sigma methodologies to eliminate waste and reduce variability.
- Train and Facilitate creation of VSM, identify bottlenecks.
- Support CLIMB deployment.
- Create and establish a Lean Culture (5s, WPO, VM, etc).
- Evaluate 5s performance and guide efforts on improvement plans.
Lead and facilitate cross-functional as well as teams across multiple sites on initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures to achieve key objectives in Lean, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Safety to drive improvements
- Connect with Technology and Commercial to assist with project leader development and PEx programs
- Support execution of the regional PEx and Lean roadmap
Experiences/Education - Required
Education.
- Required: Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field
- Required: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certificate (or MBB)
- Must be Bilingual with a high level of English proficiency
- Desired: Masters (MBA, Engineering, Supply Chain) degree
Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing experience
- Leadership Experience in Quality, Manufacturing, and/or Plant Staff or Division Staff roles
- Knowledge and experience with project planning tools such as MS Project, risk analysis, and KT decision analysis
- Training and facilitation skills
- Project management across several sites and cultures
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Must be a self-starter, influential leader, able to work in team environment and motivate others
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Bachelor of Science (Engineering) or Masters of Science (Engineering or Applied Science)
- Green Belt certification
- Black belt (6 Sigma or Innovation) training
- Project and/or manufacturing financial management knowledge
- Knowledge of Innovation Stage-gate processes
