Communication Manager

Purpose of Position:


  • With an understanding of communications strategies and best practices, the manufacturing communications manager for Optical Connectivity Solutions, will drive the development, management and distribution of internal and external communications, primarily for the Reynosa manufacturing facilities. Leveraing strategic communications tools, tactics and insights, this position plays a critical role in ensuring that employees are informed, inspired and engaged, and become or remain active ambassadors for Corning’s Optical Communications division.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with Reynosa leadership team, global manufacturing team at OCS, and the COC communications team, to establish an internal communications strategy that aligns with business goals and objectives.
  • Leads high-profile communications projects spanning a broad range of topics including: corporate, internal, external and operations
  • Support operational and change initiatives, advising on appropriate communication and engagement techniques.
  • Develop, edit, manage, implement / distribute internal communications messages and campaigns that connect employees with COC and OCS priorities.
  • Proactively identify communications opportunities and develop strategic plans to support business areas.
  • Collaborates daily with peers at global, regional and local operations.
  • Day-to-day management and oversight of the Reynosa communications team; advise communications teams across Latin America. Atract, coach and develop others, understanding team dynamics and strengthening the overall capability of the organization.
  • Assist in communication of strategies and business priorities from executive leaders, including the development of email messages, video scripts, talking points, Q&A, and speeches.
  • Understand and follow regulatory privacy and content trends in the region.
  • Provide support or management of internal meetings and conferences, including event planning and logistics.
  • Provide manufacturing-specific communications counsel to plant managers and other members of the organization’s operational facilities.
  • Ensure that internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different businesses, functions, and geographies of the organization.
  • Serve as the crisis communications lead for Reynosa, including the development and dissemination of information to internal audiences during crisis situations.
  • Partner with key business areas to design and deliver creative communications plans in support of growth plan and strategic priorities.
  • Maintain and regularly update OCS Reynosa email distribution lists and group codes, as well as monitor generic mailboxes and manage follow-up communications.
  • Assist in all aspects of the Communications function (branding, content creation, executive and leadership communications, public relations and social media).
  • Develop and pitch stories for difference audiences in various formats; track and build relationships with specialized press and newsmakers from across the region.
  • Measure effectiveness of communications efforts and offer solutions for improvements and optimizations.

Required Competencies (Education, Knowledge, Skills, Experience, Soft Skills) (Musts)

  • Four-year degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience working in communications for a large manufacturing organization.
  • Outstanding, accurate, and proven English language skills: written, verbal, and editing. Writing skills required in creative, business-like style for print, electronic, and various other media.
  • Proficiency in SharePoint and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Social media capabilities and basic platform understanding (how to create, post, monitor, and measure content and engagement).
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated willingness to learn.
  • Executive presence and composure under pressure.
  • Basic proficiency in photo editing and desktop publishing is a plus.
