Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Serve as an electrical controls resource for process improvement, cost reduction and capital expansion projects. Manage electrical and controls scope of assigned projects. Lead/participate in project teams and support daily manufacturing operations by providing technical support to plant’s various control systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide electrical, controls engineering and equipment expertise in fiber optic cable manufacturing in support of production, maintenance, continuous improvement, cost reduction, and productivity improvement.
- Internal subject matter expert in control systems (PLC, HMI, Drives etc.,), system integration, sensors and electro-mechanical devices.
- Provide technical support when maintenance requirements exceed electrical associate capabilities.

Understand critical processes, identify risks, test feasibility, and document system design specs.

Develop control architectures, functional specs, and system integration requirements.

Participate/lead all project phases: design, build, testing, installation, start‑up, training, and tech transfer.
- Recommend and implement long term solutions to recurring equipment performance issues. Provide inputs to capital and facilities plans for equipment upgrade or maintenance cycles.

Own plant controls strategy and maintain controls standards.

Support process and data system projects; help resolve process fluctuations and equipment issues.

Conduct equipment qualifications and train new personnel.
- Owner of OSI PI configuration, implementation and MES.

Support OEE, SPC, SQC, and ISO initiatives.

Deliver timely, effective engineering support to internal/external customers.
- Executing project assignments, in a team based environment, with minimal supervision.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 2-4 years of manufacturing experience.
- Fully bilingual.
- Project Management skills.
- Experience in programming PLC (AB RSLogix, Controllogix, Siemens S7 and G&L).
- Able to design, configure, and implement HMI programming.
- Ability to program in ladder logic.
- Strong fundamental understanding of electrical design practices, control systems integration, controls architectures, PLC’s, electro-mechanical drive systems, vision system, risk assessment and safety systems.
- Understanding and updating electrical schematics and prints will be a required capability for projects that support plant systems.
- Experienced in the checkout and verification of electrical control panels.
- Well versed in the rules and regulation relating to implementation and best practices in electrical system design and implementation.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Knowledge of Optic Fiber Connectivity manufacturing process and equipment.
- Manufacturing experience and ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
- Machine vision system experience.
- Knowledge of MES systems, VB.NET and PI is a plus.
- Experience with the implementation and functions of PID Controls and control loop tuning.
