Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Digital Transformation Engineer

Main Responsibilities

  • Work closely with experienced professionals and a variety of cross functional groups (manufacturing, development, engineering, IT) to help define, develop, and implement production and process data management system architectures.  
  • Work closely with Technology Development, Manufacturing, Division Engineering, and IT to industrialize and standardize data management systems and applications for consistent data flow and reporting among processes and regions.
  • Participate in all phases of projects including design, integration, testing, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer.
  • Transfer technology from early stage development to a product ready for installation in a manufacturing environment.
     

 

Travel Requirements:

  • 0-15% travel domestic and international (US, Mexico, Brazil, Poland, China)

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40+ hours/week

 

Required Education:

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ work experience in systems development, network architecture development, database development, equipment integration, and software development.

 

Required Skills:

  • Advanced english (bilingual)
  • Experience with Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT) technologies such as edge computing, cloud computing, analytics, and standards and protocols including OPC, MQTT, etc.             
  • Working knowledge and experience in a programming language such as HTML, C#, or VB.Net.
  • Experience in client/server system development in an Oracle or SQL Server environment
  • Basic understanding of Oracle or SQL Server relational databases
  • Familiarity and knowledge of PLCs and PACs related technology
  • Understanding of basic SQL (Select/Insert/Update statements)
  • Experience in manufacturing environment 
  • Ability to work in technical project teams in leadership and team member roles

 

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in relational database design
  • Experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation (MSMQ, Web Services, etc.).
  • Advanced project management experience
  • Experience with cloud computing solutions such as AWS S3 or Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with big data analytics platforms and technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, MapReduce, Databricks
