Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Division Quality Engineer

 

Scope of Position:
Apply analytical skills to support OCS Quality Management system goals and initiatives.  Develop, implement, and maintain OCS Division Quality System Performance reports.  
Ensure customer requirements are consistently met by maintaining OCS quality systems and platforms.  Effectively take action when non-conformances are found.  Ensure that documented practices meet the true interpretation of the OCS Quality Management System and TL 9000 requirements.  

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:
•    Support the implementation and execution of global Quality Systems strategy
•    Collaborate with IT to develop SAP Customer Notification reports and troubleshoot issues related to SAP Customer Notification system
•    Work with plants to resolve issues related to Customer Notification documentation and resolution.
•    Develop and distribute monthly Quality Performance reports (Customer Notifications, PPM)
•    Support activities that directly support the maintenance of multisite TL 9000 certification (monthly TL Measurement submissions, internal audits).
•    Support execution of Quarterly Division Quality Management System Reviews. 
•    Conduct monthly meetings with Plant CN Admins to support standardization.
•    Work with cross-functional teams to identify and implement improvement opportunities and corrective/preventative actions. 
•    Analyze critical Quality performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
•    Perform audits of OCS plants and processes to determine compliance to OCS Quality Management System and TL 9000 requirements
•    Participate in the governance of Quality Management System processes
•    Provide training to support implementation and execution of Division Quality platforms and processes.
•    Participate in Performance Excellence (Six-Sigma) projects, assuring the effective use of different improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Lean, DESGN, PQA, etc.)

 

Travel Requirements:
10 - 25% travel, some international
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
40 hours/week, Monday-Friday

 

Required Education:
 4-year Engineering Degree or Statistics degree preferred, Will also consider a 4-year Degree in Business Management
Desired Years and Area of Experience:
2 - 5 years of experience in Manufacturing, Engineering and/or Quality

 

Required Skills:
•    Experience with SAP
•    Proficient with Excel, manipulation of data 
•    Structured problem-solving skills to drive to root cause (e.g., KT)
•    Solid communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)
•    Familiarity with Quality Systems, audits, TL 9000 and ISO Certifications 
•    Self-starter
