Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Responsible for executing and leading environmental, health, and safety programs with a higher degree of autonomy and technical complexity. This role involves direct exposure to operational risks, decision-making in dynamic environments, and coordination of initiatives that impact compliance, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead evaluations of environmental impacts from new processes, equipment, and operational changes.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, with direct accountability for reporting and corrective actions.
- Coordinate and support internal and external environmental audits.
- Validate and lead environmental projects focused on waste, energy, and water reduction, including ROI analysis.
- Administer and improve environmental procedures and documentation.
- Evaluate changes under the Management of Change (MOC) process with a focus on environmental risk.
- Actively participate in ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001 audits and certification processes.
- Maintain and analyze environmental KPIs, identifying trends and proposing corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement environmental initiatives and ensure operational alignment.
- Lead risk assessments and implement engineering controls to mitigate high-risk activities.
- Manage safety programs including Contractor Safety, Emergency Preparedness, and High-Risk Task Management.
- Ensure compliance with Mexican safety regulations and corporate standards, including OSHA alignment.
- Coordinate and support internal and external safety audits, including government inspections.
- Lead investigations of incidents with potential for serious injury or environmental impact, ensuring root cause analysis and systemic corrective actions.
- Validate safety projects and initiatives, ensuring measurable risk reduction and operational benefit.
- Monitor and report safety KPIs, driving accountability across departments.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior EHS staff.
- Ensure timely execution of safety-related projects and initiatives under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
- Act as liaison with internal stakeholders and external agencies on safety and environmental matters.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in EHS or Safety Engineering roles, preferably in manufacturing or high-risk environments.
- Strong knowledge of Mexican safety and hygiene regulations; OSHA standards understanding.
- Proven experience leading audits, managing projects, and implementing risk controls.
- Ability to analyze complex data and develop strategic action plans.
- Experience in managing departmental objectives and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Bilingual: English and Spanish.
