Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

 

The Construction Project Manager is responsible for overseeing a facility and/or construction project and works with Engineers, Architects, and Contractors to develop a plan, create a timeline, distribute resources, and ensure timely completion.  He or she will also be responsible of maintaining all documentation (specifications, contracts, change orders, timelines, reports) in a repository to ensure information is available for the team.

In addition, responsibilities include developing and managing project budgets, creating detailed schedules and overseeing resource allocation to ensure optimal execution. He or she will conduct regular site inspections, review construction plans and specifications, identify potential risks, implement proactive measures to mitigate them and verify that all the work is performed to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies.
  • Coordinate and oversee construction activities, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications.
  • Evaluate and select contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, experience, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on project milestones to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements, prioritizing a safe working environment for all involved.
  • Manage construction project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders.
  • Conduct regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on project status, including milestones, budget updates, and any significant developments or risks.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
  • Carry out thorough project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective measures.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the project team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Project management skills / training
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to setup a plan with milestones, drive project to completion, manage a budget, and present updates at all levels
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to influence at all levels

 

Experience Requirements:

 

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in a project management
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in construction and/or facility management

 

Required Skills:

 

  • Able to work across different cultures and multi contractors
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Able to exercise leadership without authority
  • Technical English & Spanish language skills (read, write and speak)

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Ability to solve problems with advanced problem-solving tools
  • Ability to clearly communicate ideas and gain support for changes needed to deliver project milestones
