Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
Ensures entity compliance with local regulations, GAAP accounting principles and Corning policies and procedures.
Manage the plant closing process and ensures reporting is timely and accurate.
Responsible for preparation of reconciliations and the analysis of expenses to ensure financial accuracy.
Key resource for plant personnel on operating expenses, supply chain transactions and the capitalization of assets.
Responsible for key financial and internal control processes such as SOX documentation updates and inventory and asset physicals
Key Responsibilities
- Assists the controller by leading the monthly financial closing, reporting and forecasting processes. Responsible for the coordination of team journal entries, reconciliations and accuracy of the general ledger.
- Supports compliance with internal and external controls, Sarbanes Oxley requirements, GAAP accounting principles, and Corning policies and procedures
- Facilitates Appropriation Requests process, monitors capital spend, processes asset capitalizations, and maintains accuracy of fixed asset ledger
- Maintains and updates plant standard costs, working with Engineering and Operations to ensure accurate usage rates and labor hours
- Assists Plant Controller with preparation of the annual budget
- Prepares monthly account reconciliations.
- Ensures inventory is in compliance with Corning’s policies for valuation, slow and obsolescence (SLOB) reserves, write-offs, etc.
- Monitors spending and works with department managers to control costs. Researches and provides detail on expense variances
- Supports plant leadership and business partners to drive process improvements
- Supports financial analysis related to capital projects, cost reductions, and other initiatives as required
- Provides ad-hoc financial analysis for Plant Controller and Plant Leadership
Experiences/Education - Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
• +3-5 years of relevant experience
• Manufacturing and/or Cost Accounting experience preferred
• Proven knowledge of US GAAP
• Strong financial and accounting background
• Deep understanding of financial controls
• Ability to be comfortable interacting and communicating with all aspects of the business, including plant leadership
• Proficiency with Excel & PowerPoint
• Ability to be creative in providing financial solutions to business leaders
• Temporary role – 6-month contract
