Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

IMS Engineer

 

Purpose of Position: Serve as an Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineer for the Corning Optical Communications Division Engineering team driving new equipment & system introductions, process improvements and cost reduction projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, document, implement, and maintain essential Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for automated manufacturing equipment
  • Interface automated manufacturing equipment with plant information systems (MES)
  • Provide appropriate and timely technical advice on matters relating to SCADA systems and manufacturing data systems
  • Providing engineering technical expertise to ensure the operational reliability of SCADA systems
  • Work with automation equipment vendors to design/document equipment interface specifications
  • Solicit and document Voice of Customer from manufacturing sites
  • Collaborate with Process engineering to determine and provide process data to data historians at appropriate time intervals
  • Individual must be capable of executing project assignments, in a team-based environment, with minimal supervision.

 

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent.  
  • Able to travel globally (United States, Poland, and China at a minimum)
  • English proficiency         

 

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of SCADA (GE iFix, Ignition, or similar) and control systems and components
  • Knowledge of controls and real time Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Knowledge of structured programming languages
  • Experience integrating automated manufacturing equipment with plant Information Management Systems (IMS)
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills; including the ability to interact effectively with remote global teams
  • Ability to prepare technical and non-technical documentation
  • Ability to work effectively as both an individual and as a team member to solve complex SCADA problems and design decisions
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and plan activities, work on multiple concurrent tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to generate and communicate high level flow charts for process and data flows

 

Desired Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of programming GE iFix
  • Knowledge of PI data historian and how to configure – Asset Framework, Event Frames
  • Familiarity with Omron and Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Knowledge of MS SQL database
  • Project Management Skills
