Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
We are seeking a skilled and proactive IT Engineer to support manufacturing operations by ensuring robust IT infrastructure, driving cost-saving initiatives, and identifying opportunities to enhance Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and improve TAU (Total Available Uptime). This role requires hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows Server environments, LAN/VLAN architecture, firewall management, and modern programming languages and platforms. The candidate will work closely with the IT Site Manager to align IT initiatives with manufacturing goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day IT support for manufacturing systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues impacting production uptime and MES performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of IT systems with manufacturing processes.
- Identify and implement MES improvements to enhance TAU and operational efficiency.
- Work closely with production and engineering teams to align MES capabilities with business needs.
- Lead and support IT-driven cost reduction and process improvement projects.
- Analyze current systems and propose innovative solutions to reduce waste and improve performance.
- Administer and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments.
- Support and manage LAN, VLAN configurations, and firewall policies.
- Ensure network reliability, security, and scalability to meet manufacturing demands.
- Develop and support custom applications and automation tools using Python, .NET / C#, Go, Java, JavaScript / Node.js, Microsoft Power Apps.
- Integrate solutions with MES and other manufacturing systems to streamline operations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with IT policies, cybersecurity standards, and regulatory requirements.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Fluent level of English, both written and verbal.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in IT support within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server administration.
- Experience with LAN/VLAN setup and firewall configuration.
- Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages and platforms: Python, .NET/C#, Go, Java, JavaScript/Node.js, Microsoft Power Apps.
- Familiarity with MES systems and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with industrial automation systems and protocols.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in manufacturing.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
