Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

The IT Technician is responsible for providing technical support across the organization, ensuring the smooth operation of hardware, software, and network systems. This role serves as a frontline resource for resolving user issues, installing and maintaining IT equipment, and supporting digital transformation initiatives using Microsoft Power Platform tools. The technician will contribute to operational efficiency by assisting in the development and maintenance of basic automation flows, apps, and reports using Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power BI. This position plays a key role in maintaining a reliable and secure IT environment while supporting continuous improvement through technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve issues with desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals.
  • Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on hardware components.
  • Coordinate hardware replacements and manage inventory of IT assets.
  • Respond to network-related requests and troubleshoot connectivity issues (LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi).
  • Assist in configuring network devices such as switches, routers, and access points.
  • Collaborate with network administrators to escalate and resolve complex issues.
  • Install, configure, and update operating systems and business applications.
  • Ensure compliance with software licensing and security policies.
  • Provide support for Microsoft 365 applications and other enterprise tools.
  • Assist in building and maintaining basic Power Automate flows to streamline routine tasks.
  • Support the development and troubleshooting of Power Apps used by internal teams.
  • Generate and maintain simple Power BI reports and dashboards for operational insights.
  • Provide technical assistance to end-users via ticketing system, email, or in-person.
  • Document solutions and create user guides for common issues and tools.
  • Conduct basic training sessions or walkthroughs for new tools and systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, resolutions, and asset changes.
  • Contribute to IT knowledge base and standard operating procedures.
  • Report recurring issues and suggest improvements to IT processes.

Experiences/Education - Required

Education

  • Computer Systems Engineer or related.

Work Experience

  • 1 – 2 years experience as Computer systems Engineer.
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of computer hardware components and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with network fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi).
  • Knowledge of operating systems (Windows 10/11, Windows Server).
  • Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining software applications.
  • Understanding of IT security principles and safe computing practices.
  • Beginner to intermediate proficiency in Power Automate
  • Ability to create and modify simple automated workflows.
  • Beginner to intermediate proficiency in Power Apps
  • Ability to assist in building and maintaining basic canvas apps.
  • Beginner to intermediate proficiency in Power BI
  • Ability to create and edit basic reports and dashboards using existing datasets.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Good communication skills for supporting end-users and documenting issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Customer service mindset with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
  • Basic understanding of IT ticketing systems and documentation practices.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

English is required at 70%
