Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The role of the Lean Engineer is to act as change agent to promote cost savings and cultural changes by playing a strong leadership in his/her assigned core team. In doing so, the Lean Engineer is expected to drive improvements and provide support to implement initiatives originated by the core team itself or by the PEx/Lean organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day problem solving support to production, development and research operations
- Trains operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes
- Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps
- Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects
- Trouble shoots material, process and equipment issues, identifies root cause and implements corrective action
- Understand service metrics (OTP, MCT, Lead Time) and use Lean tools to improve performance
- Is able to identify process limitations and provides potential solutions
- Generate Plans and have a good follow-up to achieve it
- Full usage of SRA as a management tool, keeps updates for milestones and status
- Apply lean fundamentals: Workplace Organization, iKaizen, Gemba Engagement, VSM, Standardized Work and Visual Performance Metrics
Experiences/Education - Required
- Engineering BS Degree
- English: Can speak but hardly debate points of view
- 0-2 years as Lean Engineer
- AutoCAD
- Line Balancing
- SAP basic knowledge
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Self-motivated individual with a history of delivering positive results through continuous improvement.
- Communication skills: Person understands and presents technical detail.
- Is capable to schedule the meeting with a specific agenda and take meeting minutes.
