Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

This role is not only operational but also strategic. The Materials Control Specialist owns the inventory and material control process, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, standardization, and continuous improvement across the plant. Ensure effective inventory control and material flow within the plant by leading cycle count processes, documentation, variance analysis, continuous improvement initiatives, and compliance with corporate policies while supporting operations. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the cycle count process (planning, execution, analysis, and closure).
  • Monitor inventory accuracy and ensure achievement of targets (e.g., >95%).
  • Manage material control processes within plant/PSA/warehouses.
  • Document and standardize procedures (SOPs / Work Instructions).
  • Analyze root causes of discrepancies and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Implement material flow improvements to reduce errors and delays.
  • Coordinate with Production, Planning, Warehouse, Quality, and Finance.
  • Follow up on inventory adjustments and scrap ensuring traceability.
  • Review and validate transactions in SAP or equivalent ERP.
  • Create reports and dashboards in Excel / Power BI.
  • Train operational personnel on inventory best practices.
  • Support and participate in internal and external audits.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives (Lean / Kaizen / 5S).
  • Communicate effectively with plant leadership and cross-functional teams.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in inventory, materials, warehouse, or similar.
  • Intermediate to advanced English (able to communicate with corporate and write emails).
  • 1+ year leading processes or people (or high leadership potential).
  • Strong experience in inventory and material control.
  • In-depth knowledge of cycle count processes.
  • Understanding of material flow within manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in SAP or other ERP systems (transactions/movements).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, advanced formulas, analysis).
  • Preferred: Power BI / Macros / Power Query.
  • Ability to write, update, and maintain SOPs and documentation.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Intermediate to advanced English (able to communicate with corporate and write emails).
  • Knowledge of Lean / Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience with audits.
  • Familiarity with SAP MIGO / MB52 / Z-transactions.
  • Participation in improvement or automation projects.
  • Experience using digital tools (PowerApps, SharePoint, etc.).
