Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The NPI & CNC Programming Engineer will be Responsible for the Programming, Maintaining, Testing and Troubleshooting of CAM Software that they can effectively carry out the functions among to assure to create CNC Programs / Nestings with the correct Sequence for Machine Operations as well maintain a centralized program database and detailed records on all CNC Programs / Nestings, Tool Inventory and current CAM Software Technologies this position must ensure that CNC programs and processes are developed with a minimum human interaction with the CNC program and CNC process is providing optimal quality results. This role requires a strong technical background (Cutting, Bending, Polishing, Painting) along with project management experience with continuous improvement mindset. The NPI & CNC Programming Engineer must be able to work independently and as part of a team to identify and deliver thoroughly tested CNC machining solutions. Its responsible for Planning, Directing, and Coordinating Customers New Product or Process Development Programs by Providing Technical Guidance or Assessment in the Design, Development, Assembly, or Test Engineering Disciplines within Product & Technology Engineering, ensuring to match the NPI with the current Process Capacity & Capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support & Improve CNC Machining Processes Efficiency that meet Customer Specifications.
- Read & Understand CAD Mechanical Drawings.
- Coordinate Hands-on Prototype Validation through all Fab Shop Process, Cutting (Punch and Laser cut), bending, Welding and Painting.
- Collaboration with PE & Technology Areas to ensure quality NPI Releases.
- Experience with hand tools, machine tools, and use of semi-automated and automated manufacturing equipment is necessary.
- Possess an understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Lead DFM activities and discussions to improve product designs and manufacturing methods that support more robust processes and improved quality
- Review product GD&T and process simulations to determine manufacturing feasibility.
- Project Management & Implementation with focused on Cost Savings.
- Troubleshoot controls on Process for CNC Programming Processes & NPI Products as needed.
- Ensure Good Environment, health, and safety considered in all activities and manufacturing validations.
Experiences/Education - Required
Education.
- Bachelor’s Degree on Mechatronic, Mechanical, Electronical or Computer Systems or similar.
- Green Belt Training is a Plus.
Work Experience.
- + 5 years of experience in similar role.
- Must have a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail married with the ability to work quickly and efficiently.
- SAP Knowledges.
- CAD/CAM Programming Experience is a Must.
- Windchill Platform Experience Desirable.
- GD&T Knowledges desirable.
- Metal Bend Allowance Knowledges.
- Experience working with Cutting & Bending Mechanical Tooling.
- CNC Programming & NPI Releases Experience is a Must.
- Project Management skills is required.

- Office Package Management is a must.
- Bilingual (English / Spanish) is a must.
- Strong aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

- Knowledge of NPI, DFM Processes at Metal Shop Work.
- Lean 6 Sigma Tools Knowledge.
