As an NPI Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to industrialize new products, improve manufacturing processes, and ensure successful product launches that meet quality, cost, and performance expectations.
What is your role?
The NPI Engineer supports the successful industrialization of new products by bridging product development and manufacturing operations. This role focuses on process development, design for manufacturing (DFM), cost optimization, quality readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure efficient product launches and sustainable manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and improving processes using methodologies and statistical methods to ensure process performance meets the level required for new products.
- Support the cost performance effort in projects, contributing to the cost model to ensure product cost targets are met at product launch.
- Contribute to process improvement capability plans and assist in the preparation of technical reports for internal publication.
- Participate in the creation of requirements and agreements for product availability using LA and GA criteria document.
- Assist in organizing process and product workshops to drive DFM Analysis in NPIs, documenting and implementing improvement ideas during the NPI project lifecycle.
- Work with the project team and process engineering team to ensure quality requirements are met before project closure.
- Help identify gaps in manufacturing capabilities and make recommendations to improve. Support those improvements.
- Support the establishment and maintenance of a safe work environment.
- Assist in providing technical direction for teams of engineers and technicians across multiple locations.
- May be asked to participate in project teams of engineers, technicians, and peers
What do you need to have?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Optical Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in technology, product development, manufacturing engineering, or related engineering roles.
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
- Basic knowledge of fiber optic cabling and connectivity.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluent English and Spanish (written and verbal).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with manual or semi-automated assembly processes involving high-precision components.
- Knowledge of optical fiber cable and connector manufacturing processes.
- Interest or experience in optical physics and photonics-related technologies.
- Green Belt DMAIC and/or PQA certification.
- Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and new equipment implementation in manufacturing environments.
- Experience or interest in developing error-proofing solutions for products and manufacturing processes.
