Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

This role is within Americas’ Regional Engineering and will oversee the development of new products and processes with a focus on accelerating innovation into manufacturing through efficient Change Management, Design for Manufacturing, Cost Modeling, and alignment with our global Product Quality Architecture. The position emphasizes supervising the industrialization of products developed through our IPP projects. As an NPI Supervisor, the incumbent will lead NPI engineers and groups by coaching and provide strategic direction to ensure successful product launches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the NPI engineers with high expertise on process industrialization, promoting next-generation manufacturing solutions into the production floor.
  • Supervise the development and/or improvement of processes using DMAIC and statistical methods to ensure optimal performance. 
  • Spearhead the cost performance effort in projects, owning the cost model and ensuring product cost targets are available and met at product launch. 
  • Coordinate and develop strategies to increase group efficiency having active conversations with program managers and project leaders to determine the most adequate resource allocation across campus.
  • Promote team focus on develop new products and processes with proper designs for optimized cost, manufacturing cycling time, and quality. 
  • Oversee the authoring of process improvement capability plans and technical reports for internal publication. 
  • Develop and implement NPI metrics for product availability using LA and GA criteria document among other similar documentation. 
  • Lead and facilitate continues improvement on existent procedures and process to increase group efficiency and business impact through DFM, Product Quality Architecture, TPM and LEAN, among other methos. 
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to teams of engineers and technicians across multiple locations. 
  • Lead project teams of engineers, technicians, and peers when necessary.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Optical Physics, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years of technology, development, and/or manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of fiber optics and connectivity. 
  • Extensive experience working in a high volume, people-based, precision manufacturing environment. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities. 
  • Exceptional communication and leadership-through-influence skills. 
  • High level of initiative, ability to work with limited direction, and ability to work in a team environment. 
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience with manual and semi-automated assembly processes of complex, high precision components in a manufacturing environment. 

Experiences/Education - Desired

• Experience designing error-proofing solutions for manufacturing.

• Proven project management skills.

• Broad knowledge of OCS Process Disciplines and Product including but not limited to connector preparation, polishing, furcation, fiber optic connector optical testing, cable management, etc.

• Black Belt DMAIC certified.
