Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
The Opto-Electronics Engineer will leverage expertise in electronics, automation, and mechanics to design, optimize, and troubleshoot advanced systems for industrial and research applications. While a strong background in electronics and automation is essential, experience with optics and optical sub-assemblies is considered a valuable asset. The role requires collaboration within a global environment and the ability to manage cross-disciplinary projects
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test electronic and mechatronic systems
- Integrate automation and control solutions for precision equipment
- Troubleshoot and optimize electronic circuits, PCB layouts, and embedded systems
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across regions and cultures
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation and presentations
- Implement innovative solutions and new processes in manufacturing or R&D environments
- Support the assembly and integration of mechanical and, where relevant, optical components
- Manage schedules and prioritize tasks to meet milestones
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field
- Additional coursework or experience in optics or optical engineering is a plus
- 2-4 years of experience as Engineer
- Exceptional analytical, statistics and problem-solving abilities, including DOE, DMAIC, MSAs
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of electronics, automation, and mechanical systems
- Proficiency with relevant software, such as Labview, Python, MATLAB, PLC programming, AutoCAD, Solidworks (Zemax/Lumerical is a plus)
- Hands-on experience with electronic circuit design and embedded systems
- Hands-on experience with Vision systems, Machine Vision or AI assisted vision systems.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes for precision assemblies
- Knowledge of optical principles or optical sub-assemblies (preferred, not required)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, English and spanish.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, global environment
- Strong organizational skills
