Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
This role will be responsible for using Six-Sigma approach to improving all areas of the business within the facility including, but not limited to:
- Deliver business results utilizing PEx/MEE methods above and beyond anticipated results
- Mentoring Black belts and green belts in strategic problem solving and Six Sigma methodologies
- Coach and mentor BBs, GBs to use 6 Sigma tools properly to complete projects and prepare for certification
- Performance Excellence Champion at the facility
- Portfolio project administration
- The Site Champion is responsible for managing the Process Excellence (PEx) Project Portfolio for the plant or site location. This role ensures the effective utilization of various improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Lean, PQA, DESIGN, etc.) to achieve the strategic goals of the plant or site. The Site Champion acts as a key advisor to plant management and leaders on quality tools, methods, and processes and enhances the effectiveness of trained belts and improvement teams in reaching their project goals
Key Responsibilities
Project Portfolio Management:
- Oversee the PEx Project Portfolio to ensure alignment with plant/site strategic goals.
- Ensure the effective use of various improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Lean, PQA, DESIGN, etc.).
- Monitor and report on project progress, performance, and outcomes.
Coaching and Assistance:
- Assist and coach belts (Green Belts, Black Belts, and others) and managers in project nomination, selection, implementation, and documentation processes.
- Provide expert guidance on the application of quality tools, methods, and processes.
Advisory Role:
- Advise plant management and leaders on the use of quality tools, methods, and processes.
- Actively engage with plant/site leadership to promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Training and Development:
- Enhance the skills and effectiveness of trained belts and improvement teams.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops on PEx methodologies and tools.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and drive initiatives to achieve operational excellence.
- Utilize data-driven decision-making to support continuous improvement efforts.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Ensure thorough documentation of all projects and improvement initiatives.
- Prepare and present regular reports on the status and impact of PEx projects.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Certifications: Master Black Belt Certified, or ability to obtain certification within 3 months
- Certifications: Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification required
- Methodologies: Proficiency in DMAIC, Lean, PQA, DESIGN, and other improvement methodologies
- Leadership: Strong leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to influence and motivate teams
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Project Management: Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
- Certification as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Working knowledge of other process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Kaizen
