Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Role Purpose
- Execute plant PEx & Lean strategy to meet and exceed plant & business objectives
- Partner with groups below to define, develop, and deploy initiatives that drive operations excellence:
- Plant Operations
- Regional PEx/Lean
- OCS Global PEx/Lean
- Lead / be the role model for ensuring:
- that appropriate statistical analysis, engineering principals, and the scientific method are applied in PEx problem solving and decision-making projects
- a Lean culture is established managing continuous improvement throughout the value streams within the plant. This includes foundational and transformational lean
Key Responsibilities
- Reports to Plant Manager, collaborates with Regional PEx Champion and OCS Global PEx Champion, to define and execute a consistent strategy for the following:
- Lead project teams across multiple initiatives that span various product lines within the plant to achieve key objectives in Quality, Cost, Delivery, Moral, Safety, and Innovation
- Tailor, Communicate and Lead PEx roadmap (including Lean) deployment to the Plant Leadership Teams
- Lead and assist in Cost Reduction planning and execution
- Track the PEx Savings against target; develop trip wires and manage action plans
- Assessing and driving appropriate application of technical rigor throughout the PEx portfolio
- PEx (including Lean) development for GB and BB
- Training, coaching, mentoring, and recognizing our belts in the plant
- Development and deployment of new PEx tools and concepts
- Provides direction for plant leadership team and project leaders requiring use of mentoring, training, and development of skills
- Teaches/facilitates PEx belt courses
- Support the QiA/ Houghton Award application process
- Must be a self-starter, influential and experienced leader, able to work in team environment and motivate others
Experiences/Education - Required
- Required: Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering field
- Required: Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certificate (or MBB)
- Fully bilingual
- Minimum 7 years of manufacturing experience
- Minimum of 2 years management experience
- Leadership Experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or Operations
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills
Desired:
- Knowledge and experience with project planning tools such as MS Project, risk analysis, and decision analysis
- Training and facilitation skills
- Desired: Masters (MBA, Engineering) degree
